AIL Division 2B — Skerries RFC 26–24 Wanderers

Skerries' first XV delivered an impressive performance against AIL 2B leaders Wanderers at Holmpatrick on Saturday evening, securing a thrilling 26-24 victory in their final competitive match of 2024. The result came down to the final moments, with fullback Ronan Mulcahy tapping over his easiest kick of the afternoon to seal the win after Wanderers were turned over near the tryline.

Wanderers struck early when Mick McGrath scored within three minutes. Skerries responded through Mulcahy's penalty, then levelled at 10-10 after Brían Walsh crossed for a try following a forced scrum restart. The visitors extended their lead to 10-17 through Jamie Kavanagh's try from a lineout maul.

Skerries mounted a strong second-half comeback, with Mulcahy's penalties cutting the deficit before a penalty try made it 23-17. McGrath's opportunistic try briefly put Wanderers ahead at 23-24. In dramatic closing stages, Wanderers lost a stolen lineout, and after strong carries by Davey Goodman, Mulcahy's final penalty secured victory. This sixth win elevated Skerries to third place in the league standings.
