AIL Division 2B — Skerries RFC 7–12 Sligo
The young Skerries first XV squad, featuring eight under-20 players, delivered a spirited performance but fell short against Sligo at Holmpatrick. Despite fielding an injury-depleted roster, the hosts showed no signs of fear playing against the elements in an evenly-fought first half. The opening period remained scoreless, with Skerries appearing the more satisfied team at the break.
However, poor execution proved costly when an unconvincing clearance was spilled in the second half, allowing Sligo's Ronan O'Connor to create attacking momentum. Sligo earned a penalty try through a dominant scrum sequence, establishing a 7-0 lead. Jack Litchfield revitalised Skerries' campaign with a try following a scything run and a couple of nice passes, converting to level the match at 7-7.
However, Sligo's Louis McVitty touched down in the corner to secure their advantage and ultimately their victory. Despite sustained pressure, Skerries couldn't breach Sligo's defence to claim victory. Next up: Malahide away on March 1st.
