AIL Division 2B — Rainey RFC 34–5 Skerries RFC
Skerries' First XV suffered a significant defeat in AIL Division 2B, losing 34-5 to Rainey RFC. The visiting team began competitively but struggled to convert early pressure into points. Rainey struck first following a penalty try from a maul infringement, with Tomas O'Donovan sent to the sin bin. Skerries responded quickly when Kevin McGrath's cross-kick found Davey Goodman for a try, narrowing the gap to 7-5.
Following O'Donovan's return, Rainey extended their advantage through tries from Jody McMurray and Killene Thornton, establishing a 19-5 halftime lead. The second half proved one-sided; an offside penalty gave Scott McLean the easiest of chances to extend the lead to 22-5. Jack Hardy scored twice late, with McLean converting, resulting in the final 34-5 scoreline.
On a brighter note, the J1s achieved success in the Provincial Towns Cup, defeating Roscrea 20-19 in a tight contest featuring tries from Harry Cole, Ben McKiernan, and Adam Boyers. Skerries' senior squad faces Malone on February 8th.
