📢 A message from @skerriesrugbyclub Captain for 2026/27, Kevin McGrath.
🗣️ To captain Skerries RFC is a massive privilege, but to be asked to lead the senior squad out during our Centenary season is the honour of a lifetime. Having first picked up a rugby ball when I was 5 and proudly worn the senior jersey since I was 17, this club has been a significant part of my life. I’ve previously had the honour of captaining this club, but stepping back into the role for such a monumental milestone means even more.
I’d like to thank Cheddar (Kieran Leonard) for his work over the past two years as Club Captain. Dealing with injury throughout that period was never easy, but he carried out the role admirably and gave everything he had both on and off the pitch. His commitment in the face of that adversity says everything about the kind of leader he is. I’d also like to thank Peter (O’Neill) and Paul (O’Loghlen), who stepped in as captains while Cheddar was sidelined and did the role real justice.
👕 As we celebrate our Centenary, it is important to reflect on the generations of players, coaches, and volunteers who built this club from the ground up. We stand on the shoulders of the men and women who kept Skerries RFC going through decades of change. The squad is deeply aware of that history, and we look forward to wearing the centenary crest and jersey with pride.
To our supporters, old and new, players, opponents, referees and all other visitors – welcome to Holmpatrick for what will be a historic year. Our goal is to play a dynamic, hardworking style of rugby that honours the past teams, the spirit of Skerries, and makes everyone proud to stand on the sidelines.
🐐 A rugby club is only as strong as its community. To the committee members, ground staff, and volunteers who keep the lights on and the pitches lined, thank you. Your dedication is the engine of Skerries RFC.
To teammates and coaches, thank you for the work you’re putting in, I couldn’t ask for a better group to be involved with.

To the boys and girls in our minis and youth sections: you are the start of the next 100 years. Keep working hard, keep listening to your coaches, and most importantly, keep enjoying it. I was in your boots once, and I can tell you that the friends you make at our club will be friends for life.
🏉 I'd like to extend a warm welcome to our incoming President, Billy Mulcahy, and wish him a fantastic year. To our Head Coach, Dave Plummer, and the coaching staff, thank you for your relentless drive to push this group of players to the next level.
🙏🏼 On a personal note, I thank my partner, Dáire, my family and friends. The commitment required to play senior rugby takes its toll, and your patience, backing, and presence on the sidelines have been my constant foundation.
This year is about celebrating our past, but it is also about setting the standard for our future. I encourage everyone in Skerries to come down, get involved, pack the clubhouse, and make this a season we will talk about for decades to come.
